Witz also traveled to Richmond, Virginia; Washington, DC; Boston, and New York City as part of his research, to look at memorials and monuments in each of those cities.

CSPS Research Fellow Valmont Layne and Student Fellow Luvuyo Dondolo at the entrance to Kelly Ingram Park in Birmingham, Alabama. The park was the site of many gatherings and protests during the Civil Rights Movement. The students and fellows who traveled to Birmingham also visited the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute, where Dondolo later spent part of his summer internship.
