MUSEUMS AND GLOBAL PUBLIC SPHERES

The Atlanta Workshop
Museum Frictions: Public Cultures/Global Transformations

A workshop in Atlanta in November 2002 followed up on the Museums and Global Public Spheres conference, disseminating and furthering the exchange begun at the conference and planning meetings. The Atlanta Workshop sought to engage the next generation of young scholars and museum professionals, bringing together a small group of junior staff in museums or related institutions and graduate students in museum studies, anthropology, history, art history, and related fields who are doing relevant research. Like the conference volume, the Atlanta Workshop was called Museum Frictions: Public Cultures/Global Transformations. Some people from the Bellagio conference and Atlanta-based museum professionals also took part. Participants read and discussed the Bellagio conference papers, relating them to their own work, experience, and research plans. Click here to view a list of participants.
