This year's Intensive Grant Writing Workshop included eight students from Art History, Women's Studies, History and Philosophy. Seven faculty and staff also participated, including Ulf Nilsson, Martine Brownley, Mark Risjord, Rosemary Hynes, Melissa Gilstrap, Ivan Karp and Corinne Kratz. The workshop took place at Unicoi State Park, just north of Helen, GA about 1.5 hours north of Atlanta.

Shortly after arrival at Unicoi , the workshop began with an introduction led by Ivan Karp, followed by proposal presentations. During these presentations, proposal authors had to listen to their proposals being presented by a fellow workshop participant and subsequently discussed by faculty, staff and the rest of the students. Following these discussions, proposal authors were then allowed to respond and discuss their own proposals.

Time was also built into the workshop to allow students to enjoy the beautiful surroundings at Unicoi. Here, three students (Leonardo Marques, Fabricio Prado and Francis Musoni) stop to enjoy the view from a mountain. Armed with one bottle of water each, they had no idea that another two hours awaited them before the conclusion of their hike.

On the last day of the workshop, students signed up for half-hour individual meetings with faculty and staff. Here, Durba Mitra discusses her revised proposal with Corinne Kratz.

The Graduate School's Assistant Dean for Finance, Rosemary Hynes, was also available to meet with students regarding their proposals and funding options and support at Emory and beyond.

The concluding session of the workshop was a wrap-up of the previous two days and also a final opportunity for students to ask questions and discuss their proposals with the entire group. Following this session, students were asked to complete evaluation forms, reviewing their experiences at Unicoi and making suggestions for future workshops.
